Our Decking Installation Process
At Liverpool Decking, we've refined our installation process over 15 years to deliver consistently outstanding results. Whether you're having composite, timber, or PVC decking installed, our step-by-step approach ensures your project runs smoothly from initial enquiry through to completion. Here's exactly what to expect when you choose us for your decking project in Liverpool.
Step 1: Free Consultation & Site Survey
Every project begins with a free, no-obligation consultation. We'll visit your property at a time that suits you to assess the site, discuss your ideas, and take accurate measurements.
During the survey, we'll look at ground conditions, drainage, access, and any existing structures. We'll discuss your preferred materials, colours, and any additional features you'd like, such as steps, lighting, seating, or planters.
This visit typically takes 30-60 minutes. There's absolutely no pressure — we're here to understand your needs and provide expert advice.
Step 2: Detailed Quote & Design
Within 48 hours of our site visit, we'll provide a detailed, written quote covering everything — materials, labour, ground preparation, waste disposal, and any extras. Our quotes are transparent with no hidden costs.
For more complex projects, we can provide design drawings or 3D visualisations to help you see how your new deck will look. We'll discuss material options, explain the pros and cons of each, and help you make the best choice for your budget and lifestyle.
Step 3: Material Ordering & Scheduling
Once you've approved the quote, we'll order your materials and schedule your installation date. We typically begin work within 2-4 weeks, depending on material availability and our current workload.
We'll confirm your start date in advance and provide a clear timeline for the project. If there are any changes or delays, we'll communicate promptly.
Step 4: Ground Preparation
Proper ground preparation is crucial for a long-lasting deck. On installation day, we begin by preparing the site — clearing vegetation, levelling the ground, and laying weed membrane where necessary.
If you have an existing deck that needs removing, we'll carefully dismantle it and dispose of all waste before preparing for the new installation.
For raised decks or sloping gardens, we install support posts with concrete foundations to ensure rock-solid stability.
Step 5: Subframe Construction
The subframe is the backbone of your deck. We construct heavy-duty subframes using either pressure-treated timber or aluminium joists, depending on the decking material and project requirements.
Every subframe is built to precise specifications with proper joist spacing, adequate ventilation, and appropriate load-bearing capacity. This attention to structural detail is what separates a professional installation from a DIY job.
Step 6: Decking Board Installation
With the subframe complete, we install your chosen decking boards using hidden fixings (for composite/PVC) or stainless steel screws (for timber). We ensure consistent board spacing for drainage and expansion, and cut all edges cleanly for a professional finish.
We install any additional features — steps, fascia boards, trim, balustrades — and ensure every detail meets our exacting standards.
Step 7: Quality Check & Handover
Before we leave, we carry out a thorough quality inspection of the entire deck. We check every board, fixing, and detail to ensure everything meets our standards.
We clean up completely — removing all waste, sweeping, and leaving your garden tidy. We then walk you through your new deck, explain any aftercare requirements, and answer any questions.
You'll receive written aftercare guidance and our contact details for any future queries. We're always just a phone call away.
